OUR ROOTS: THE WORLD GOLF FOUNDATION

The World Golf Foundation, a not-for-profit 501(c)(3) organization with its own board of directors, was formed in 1994 to oversee the new World Golf Hall of Fame, which opened at the World Golf Village in May of 1998. The Hall of Fame had originally been a project of the PGA TOUR, but when other major golf associations accepted the TOUR’s invitation to participate in the project, an umbrella organization was formed to facilitate collaboration among the associations. The new organization adopted this mission statement:

World Golf Foundation, Inc. is a not-for-profit organization created to unite the golf industry and those who love the game in support of initiatives that promote, enhance the growth of and provide access to the game of golf, while preserving golf’s traditional values and also passing them on to others.

The World Golf Foundation initiated the GOLF 20/20 program in 1999 to harness its industry unity to grow the game. Since that time, GOLF 20/20’s efforts have had a profound influence on golf through a broad range of strategic efforts and insightful industry research. Partnerships with organizations like the PGA TOUR, PGA of America and USGA have resulted in bold new programs to expand the number of golfers in our nation. With an eye to the future, a dedication to golf’s growth and a broad base of industry support, GOLF 20/20 will help create a solid foundation for expansion and vitality well into the 21st century.
